The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program in Non-Profit gives students an opportunity to specialize, gain qualifications, and plan a career pathway in various areas of the Non-Profit sector while still in high school. The SHSM Program has a number of required components, designed to give students a “leg-up” to pursue post-secondary opportunities in each of the identified sectors, valuing apprenticeship, college, university and work. The Non-Profit sector offers a range of dynamic, engaging, and rewarding careers for those who share the sector’s common vision: to make a difference. The sector’s employers include some 69,000 non-profit organizations nationwide. These organizations are active in a variety of areas – health and social services, religion, development and housing, arts and culture, sports and recreation, environment, education and research, fundraising, law, advocacy, and politics and operate in Canada and throughout the world.
